Personal Statement: Hirbod Assa is an entrepreneur in the risk management and insurtech sector, a co-founding team member of Edge Technologies, and the director of the risk consultancy Modelibrary. Hirbod has significant experience commercializing his research, having consulted numerous insurance companies with pricing and bringing new products to market. Previously, he served as a reader in actuarial and data science at Essex University's SMSAS. His work focuses on quantitative modeling in risk management, actuarial science, machine learning, and finance, bridging both academia and industry. Hirbod has led various data science and risk management projects, receiving funding from organizations such as the Walton Foundation, Cooke Aquaculture Inc., Longline Environment, Azur LTD, and Stable Group LTD. He has also collaborated on research projects with MUFG and Lloyds Bank. His key role in developing Stable Group Ltd's price index insurance, designed to address volatility in commodity prices, was recognized by the University of Liverpool as an impact case in the 2021 REF submission.
Hirbod has a Ph.D. in financial mathematics from the University of Montreal in 2011 and a subsequent Ph.D. in economics from Concordia University in 2013. Hirbod has co-founded FinAct and assumed an advisory role in the Agricultural Finance Review. Before Hirbod served as a senior lecturer in finance and fintech at the Kent Business School and worked for seven years at IFAM at the University of Liverpool.
